CMJ 2008 | 8MM

SnowGhost Music (Whitefish, MT) asked me this October to travel with them as a Cinematographer to the 2008 CMJ Film & Music Festival- NYC. Along with Daytrotter and Take the Handle, SnowGhost hosted an amazing 7-band showcase. We documented the event heavily- it was kind of ridiculous.

This piece is a compilation of 8mm images acquired from various day-to-day travels throughout the city. It was shot on an old Argus/Cosina 735 using Tri-X 200ASA film stock.

Victory Smokes

These guys are good friends of mine from Missoula, MT, and have contributed to several of my films. Everyone in this band is a talented and hardworking musician. Collectively they have one of the strongest, most consistent work ethics I've ever seen. Victory Smokes are promotional guerillas and are a definition of DIY success.

This fall they recorded their new EP with SnowGhost Music (Whitefish, MT). The song in this piece is from a few years back and makes use of footage gathered during a live set and a basement practice. Directed and edited by Pat Gill, drummer for the Victory Smokes.

Displace

This is the second installment in a series of ongoing works exploring decay. Collaboration with SLC-based artist Jeff Shell has allowed these projects to become what they are. Jeff's aural walls of sound were just what I was looking for and work perfectly with the colors and textures seen in the imagery.

Tipton

The inspiration for this piece came last winter while visiting my friend Tipton in Bellingham, WA. He has an unparalleled style of dress and I asked him if he was interested in helping me create a short film about a drifter, which he was. Other than a rough concept, improvisation played a large part in what we were doing and we essentially created the story on the spot. A few months later while back in Oregon, I saw an opportunity to re-work the story and build upon a very simple piece.
